Tax Planning and Controversy

Richardson Plowden provides tax advice for individuals, businesses and charitable organizations on a wide variety of federal and state tax law issues, represents clients in tax-motivated business transactions including, but not limited to, tax-free exchanges, stock redemptions and tax-deferred reorganizations.

The Firm represents taxpayers in disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and the South Carolina Department of Revenue. We also have successfully represented clients to obtain ruling requests submitted to these authorities to secure the tax treatment of a given transaction in advance of entering into such a transaction.

Richardson Plowden also helps charitable organizations such as private family foundations, private operating foundations, and public charities obtain recognition of tax-exempt status and then maintain exempt status.
