Stanley D. Copeland is an associate of Richardson Plowden in the Columbia office. He focuses his practice on construction law, personal injury, products liability, torts, premises liability and insurance law. He represents a broad range of clients.

Mr. Copeland's experience includes:

  • Received the 1990 South Carolina Bar Pro Bono Award for successfully representing the widow of a Green Beret in an Agent Orange case, as well as for representing a family in an ejectment case where ownership of property on which they lived was in dispute.
  • Successfully represented a Lloyds of London insured in an action to recover insurance benefits from Lloyds.
Mr. Copeland received his undergraduate degree from Clemson University in 1979, and his juris doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1984. As a law student, he received the Best Brief Award at the 1983 National Appellate Advocacy Competition national finals in Atlanta and first place at the Southeastern Regional National Appellate Advocacy Competition in Morgantown, West Virginia.

After law school, Mr. Copeland practiced with the Law Offices of O. Fayrell Furr, Jr., and Batten, Batten & Copeland. He had a private practice for ten years before joining Richardson Plowden in 2000. He is admitted to the South Carolina Bar, the United States District Court, District of South Carolina, and the United States Supreme Court.
