Douglas C. Baxter is a shareholder of Richardson Plowden in the Myrtle Beach office. He focuses his practice on litigation defense, insurance, governmental liability defense, legal malpractice defense, products liability and premise liability. Mr. Baxter has tried a number of jury and non-jury cases in South Carolina courts and the United States District Courts; however, he primarily handles cases in the Pee Dee and coastal areas of South Carolina. Mr. Baxter has tried a wide variety of cases to verdict, including products liability, wrongful death, premise liability, automobile accidents, police arrests, commercial disputes, construction and slander/libel. Mr. Baxter has been involved in various other aspects of litigation defense including directing the investigation within hours of an incident occurring and alternative dispute resolution (arbitration and mediation).
Mr. Baxter graduated cum laude from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1982. He earned his juris doctor in 1985 from the University of Georgia in Athens.
He is active in the Horry County Bar Association, having served as president in 1996. He also served in the South Carolina Bar’s House of Representatives from 1992 until 1994. Mr. Baxter is married and has two children. He is active in his church and community.
